Phaedra Tillery Boughton (she/her) is a dynamic, multi-hyphenate creative artist whose work spans theater, production, and community advocacy. A proud champion of Black theater, Phaedra is committed to creating safe, inclusive spaces for Black creatives to thrive. She was awarded the 2022-23 Theatre Bay Area Arts Leadership Residency at SFBATCO, where she continues to expand her artistic practice as an Associate Producer and Casting Manager. Phaedra is also the co-host of Creatively Shaded, a podcast that highlights diverse voices in the arts.
Her theatrical credits include acting in The Black Feminist Guide to The Human Body (as Dee, Lorraine Hansberry Theater), Crowns (as Mable, CenterRep) Phaedra has directed Legally Blonde at Ray of Light Theater, and Clybourne Park at Hillbarn Theater. She has also and performed in Ain’t Misbehavin’ (as Armelia McQueen) and The Color Purple (Hillbarn Theatre). She has also been part of productions like Caroline, or Change and Little Shop of Horrors (Ray of Light Theatre).
As an emerging playwright, Phaedra is shaping the future of theater with bold and innovative work. Recently, Phaedra received the 2024-2025 Black Futures Award from Zaccho Dance, an honor that reflects her continued commitment to pushing boundaries and fostering creativity in the Black arts community. With a passion for breaking traditional theater norms, she consistently advocates for greater inclusion and artistic innovation.
